Older, non-traditional students have set the premise for no GMAT or GRE requirements for MBA programs. These standardized admission exams as academic preparedness indicators seem to be less important than life or career experience. Currently there are 136 accredited MBA programs available online which require no GMAT or GRE exam.

More and more top MBA schools are dropping the GMAT and GRE for those who are candidates for their program. University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and University of Phoenix are three schools which offer MBA programs that do not require a GMAT score for admission.

The GMAT is not a great indicator of a student’s qualities such as skill, determination, drive or enthusiasm. Other factors may be present which affect the outcomes of the test as well such as work and family responsibilities and not enough time to prepare for the exam. Time constraints can skew the measure of a candidate’s abilities.

Another hindrance is the length of time between the candidates graduation from an undergraduate program before application to a MBA program. The cost of exams can range over $250 not including the price of tutors, study materials and prep courses. This can add up and there is no guarantee of passing the exam, only then to have to take it again. MBA schools are taking this into consideration and have moved from case-by-case exceptions into the new college norm.

Schools that require a GMAT or GRE are not necessarily better than those who don’t. The true indicator of a great school is the success rate of graduates into the workforce. At the other end, it is also the personal strength of incoming students and their drive.

If you want to get your MBA without taking a GMAT or GRE exam, you do have options. Each university’s admission process is different. Getting your MBA requires investing time, money and effort, so there are many factors to consider when selecting the right program for you.
