7 Ways to Stay in Shape While in College

Staying in shape when you go away to college can be quite difficult. Most people have a hard enough time staying in shape when they’re going about their lives the same way they always have. Once you go away to college things change even more. First, if you’re going to college for the first time you may never have had to take care of your own health. After all, when you’re under 18 your parents are probably telling you what you should do and what you shouldn’t do. They make sure you eat decently and that you go to the doctor. But when you go away to college that changes.

Now, for the first time ever, you’re completely on your own. It’s up to you to get to the doctor if you need to and it’s also up to you to make sure you are eating right and staying in shape. So how do you go about doing that? It’s actually not as difficult as you might think. The important thing is to stay focused on yourself and what you’re doing. Remember that everything you do has an impact on your health so you don’t want to take any of that too lightly.

1

Have a Routine

The first thing is to make sure you keep to a routine. If you set up a time to get up every morning and work out or a time to eat your meals you’ll be more likely to do it. Saying you’ll work out ‘when you have time’ is a great way to push it off and never actually do it. After all, who really wants to work out? If you don’t want to do something then you need to find a way to push yourself and a routine is going to be the best way to do just that.

2

Get a Buddy

One of the best schools in the country, the University of Iowa has an unrivaled writing program and one of the largest hospitals for teaching its students found anywhere in the country. Offering a large number of undergraduate, graduate and profes.

Another excellent way to make sure you work out as much as you should and therefore stay in better shape is to have someone with you to work out with. Think about it. If you say you’re going to work out for an hour at 3 p.m. who is holding you to it? If 3 p.m. rolls around and you’re doing something else you say ‘oh well, I’ll do it tomorrow.’ Now think about if you have a buddy who is counting on you to meet them for workout at 3 p.m. Now you’re more likely to actually get out there and work.

3

Eat Regularly

If you aren’t eating properly it’s not possible for you to get into shape. You’ll have trouble keeping yourself healthy and you definitely will have some problems with exercise. The only way exercise is going to help you is if you also eat enough to keep your body moving. If you don’t eat enough, eat too much or eat too much of the wrong things you’ll find yourself losing that battle with ‘staying in shape.’

4

Exercise The Way That Works

Your best friend may be able to go to the gym and lift weights for an hour and enjoy their workout. Maybe your roommate likes to go to dance class. If you like either of those then that’s great and you should do them yourself. But if you don’t like them then you are going to have a harder time sticking to them. Take some time to find a workout method that you like. If you like what you do you’ll have an easier time of it because you’ll look forward to that time each day.

5

Work Out Often

Maybe you don’t have time to exercise every single day but you will want to consider it at least a few times a week. School is going to take a lot of your time and you’ll have to work hard at your studies. Remember though that you have to make time for your workouts. Maybe you need to get up a little earlier or stay up a little later so you have some time to work out even a half hour every other day. That workout is going to do a lot for your body as well as your mind.

6

Sign up for Sports

In college it’s time for you to start all over. So if you never played sports in high school but you want to it’s time to take that next step. You have the opportunity to make yourself whoever you want to be in college. So if you feel like joining a team make sure you get out there and do it. You’ll enjoy learning something new, make new friends and get more exercise in the process which means you’ll be staying in shape without even realizing that you’re doing anything. It’s a great way to help yourself and your school at the same time.

7

Take a Walk

One of the easiest ways to stay in shape is just to walk. So try it out. When you’re watching TV just walk in place or walk in place while you’re going through your flashcards for the next test. You’ll get benefits and you won’t even realize you’re doing it. Just walking in place can be very simple and yet, at the same time, it’s helping you burn off some calories and get yourself in better shape much faster. If you have some time you can walk around your dorm or walk through campus but even a few steps in your room will help.
